Am I called?: Part III

Calling is the truth that God calls us to himself so decisively that everything we are, everything we do, and everything we have is invested with a special devotion and dynamism lived out as a response to his summons and service.” (Os Guiness, The Call)

How can anyone argue with Os? (His name alone should bring reverence and awe.)

His book The Call is really quite good.

This quote makes it sound like “calling” is quite definitive and transformative.

His language leans more to that of “surrender” or “lordship.”

And to surrender to the lordship of God becomes synonymous with “followership” or “discipleship.” To be called comes with the territory for any disciple.

It appears as though “calling” is foundational to everything else – perhaps even a memorable occasion in time – from that experience comes devotion and even purpose.

Is it helpful to articulate calling in this way?

This 3 part series of short blogs have had some very interesting comments, check them out. (Part I, Part II, or Part III – Which do you find to be more biblical?)

Next week I will outline some “Misconceptions” around this notion of calling that have really helped me sort how God leads.
